Kangaroo Island after the fires
#1
Now that the fires have burned through some areas of Kangaroo Island, the animals that have survived are in trouble from dehydration and hunger. Volunteers from groups like Humane Society International are searching the burned out areas and giving water to animals and bringing them to safety. Koalas are particularly in need. They are finding them sitting on the ground suffering from serious dehydration.

The whole island is in serious trouble. So much has been lost.

In the midst of this devastation you have to admire the people that carry on.
I am even impressed that the tourists are coming back to try and help the local economy.
I don't know how much of the island can recover or how long it will take. There are many people working to save what can be saved.
These people are all heroes and they deserve any respect and help the rest of the world can give them.

It's got the healthiest population of koalas in Australia or it did have and a beautiful place.

I can't get over the images of Koalas just sitting there on the ground. It is like they don't know what to do. I am relieved that there are people in there helping.

You are right. From what I have read, this is the strongest koala population. It really matters that they save as many as they can.
Somehow nature will recover and Kangaroo Island will be beautiful again. Nature never gives up and we can't lose hope either.
