The Chinese city of Zhuhai has become the second city to ban cat and dog meat. Now that dogs are no longer classified as livestock it is possible that cities will move to ban the eating of cats and dogs.

Many of the dogs being sold were people's pets. Humane Society International has rescued many dogs from slaughterhouses and clearly they were once companion animals.

It would be wonderful if the stolen pets could be returned to their worried owners. There may be no way to do that, but people can at least know that some pets were rescued and they can hope their missing pet is safe.
With all the changes that are happening because of the pandemic there is hope that the dog and cat meat industry will come to an end. It is clear that eating wildlife is dangerous for all of us. The dog and cat meat industry is also not safe. There is no regulation or inspection and this could be a danger to us all.
These food markets have got to be stopped. If we won't do it to prevent animal cruelty, then at least we can do it to protect ourselves. Either way it must be stopped.
