Hope for the Kangaroo Island Dunnarts
#1
Dunnarts are a tiny marsupial that lives on Kangaroo Island. Before the fires there were probably only 500 left. Now that number might be only 50.
There is a small area of the island that escaped the fires.  More than one group of Dunnarts has been found. This raises the chance of their survival greatly.
Conservationists are working on helping them to survive. With human assistance and protection these tiny little creatures could make a comeback.

Sometimes we need some good news. Not all was lost in the bushfires and conservation efforts are still  going ahead. It would be a tremendous thing if this one species could be saved. It would mean there is hope for so many other species who are in trouble. Just in time for Earth Day we find out that there is hope for one species that was thought to be lost. I hope this is a sign of what we will find in the future.
