White Tailes Eagles return to England after 240 years
#1
White Tailed eagles are native to England and Europe, but they were hunted until they were gone from England. The last one died 240 years ago.
Last summer six young eagles were released on the Isle of Wight as part of a five year restoration project. They have been fitted with GPS trackers so their movements can be followed.
One young pair flew as far as north York. It is hoped that they will settle and nest there when they are old enough. Another pair seems settle on the Isle of Wight.
It is a beginning and it seems to be working.

Even stories from grand parents and great grand parents would not include the eagles. They have been gone too long from England.
Sightings will be something new and exciting for people who are alive now.  I really hope this project works. Restoring the biodiversity of an area and returning a lost species are amazing accomplishments that can only bring good to an area. I look forward to hearing about sightings of the birds in the future.
