7 Newborn Mexican Wolves!
#1
Albuquerque Bio Park has just welcomed seven newborn Mexican Wolf pups. This is the second litter for the parents Kawi and Ryder. Last year they had three pups, but only one survived. This year there are seven and they have an experienced mom. Hopefully they all survive.
Mexican wolves are endangered and this litter is a significant addition to the species. The ABQ Bio Park is part of a larger species survival plan and they have contributed much to the survival of the Mexican wolves. Since 1983 they have welcomed 79 wolf pups.

This is good news for the Mexican wolves. Maintaining genetic diversity through breeding programs can keep a species healthy enough to survive. Having seven more new pups is a real sign that the wolves can survive. Wolves as apex predators play an important role in balancing their ecosystem for other species too. Wolves stabilize population numbers of other species. Maintaining the Mexican wolf population does more than save the wolves. It saves the ecology of the whole area where they live. Those seven little pups  are very important people. I hope they do well.
