Animal Rights Activist killed at vigil
#1
The group Toronto Pig Save regularly holds vigils outside a slaughter house and pork processing plant. The activists stop by the trucks and say good bye to the pigs and give them water. There have been close calls before with the trucks. This time Regan Russell was standing in front of a truck and the driver drove right over her.
She just wanted top say goodbye to the pigs and offer them comfort.

In response Toronto Pig Save is holding vigils outside Fearman's Pork to remember the woman who was killed.
They have asked that at least some of the pigs on the truck be sent to a sanctuary in honour of Regan Russel.

It is sad that a protestor was killed. The members of Toronto Pig Save are a dedicated group of people who care. The woman who was  killed has been committed to the cause for years. Regan's death is a loss  to all of us who care about animals. Her presence will be missed greatly.

There is no word about the truck driver and any charges he might face.

What? What! Surely charges must be brought. If this incident took place at the exit from the abattoir, then the lorry must have been going very slowly indeed, so a mere accident seems highly unlikely.

I remember the case where Anita Krajnc, the leader of the group, was charged and found not guilty a few years ago.

The truck would have been surrounded by protestors. If the driver drove ahead without stopping then surely he should be charged with something.
After all, they charged Anita with giving water to pigs. This driver ran over and killed someone. I will keep looking for any word that the driver has been charged.
