Leave the Leaves Alone
#1
The advice in this article is for Canadians and in particular people in Ontario.  However the advice is good for anywhere. Leaving the leaves unraked and uncleared is good for the environment. As the leaves break down they nourish the soil and they protect the plants and the insects that call that soil home. Clearing a lawn leaves so many creatures vulnerable. They have nowhere to hibernate.

I not only leave my leaves, I collect bags of leaves from neighbours with big trees. I bury my roses in piles of leaves. They stay warm and healthy under the leaves and are ready to go in the spring with little winter kill. Also my garden looks pretty with its piles of bright coloured leaves. Soon enough the whole thing will be covered in snow. Until then leaves give me bright colours there is a wonderful scent to freshly scattered leaves. Everybody wins.

So: LEAVE THE LEAVES ALONE!

The environment will thank you.
