Rare white turtle hatched.
#1
On the shores of South  Carolina, the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol spotted a rare white turtle hatchling. This is not an albino hatchling.  This hatchling is leucistic.    Leucism results in decreased pigment. The animal appears white or lighter, but does not have the pink eyes of an albino.

I hope the little turtle survives. It is harder for a white turtle to survive. It would stand out to predators with out natural camouflage colouring.
The island has a dedicated team of volunteer turtle watchers. It is because of their efforts that we even know about this rare turtle.
The volunteers count turtle nests and watch over them.
I hope that someday in the future we will be posting about a leucistic adult turtle. It would be wonderful to find out that he survived.
