Chernobyl more than 30 years later
#1
After the nuclear accident at Chernobyl, 2800 square km were set aside as a Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
We have already seen the movie about the wolves  and other animals who live in the area.  The CEZ has become a vast nature preserve. Plants and animals have come back. Nature has reestablished itself and habitats have been restored.

The United Nations has established 2021-2030 as the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.(This requires a separate post very soon)
Chernobyl is a tremendous example  of an ecosystem that has reestablished itself when it got a chance.

What nature has done in the Chernobyl area is something unexpected. Nature has reclaimed the area and brought it back to life.
That tells us that restoration is possible. If life can return to the site of a nuclear accident then life should be able to return anywhere. It might need a little help, but we can bring back ecosystems. The damage we have done to the planet is reversible.
