Cat rescue being forced to move
#1
A cat rescue in the north end of Toronto  has until March first to move its cats out of the property they are renting. The reason is zoning complications.
If they are not granted special permits, they will not be able to house more than 3 cats at a time on the premises.  They would eventually have to move because the area is scheduled for redevelopment. They just need to be given more time  to find a suitable place for the rescue.

North Toronto Cat Rescue has been at its current location for 2 1/2 years. So whatever the zoning issue is, the shelter has been there all this time without problems.
Surely the city  can find a way to let them stay there until they find a new location.  They do a lot of good by reducing the stray cat population.  For the sake of the good they do it would make sense to make and exception for them. Toronto has had a serious stray cat problem. The efforts of groups like this have really helped to make a difference. The shelter has a petition to the mayor of Vaughan  to allow them to stay where they are for now. I hope the mayor listens.

This is a better article.

I think it is terrible that the city let them spend the money to renovate ( which would have involved permits) and is now refusing them the permits needed to stay.

That's awful the lady I got Edward from had her cat rescue in a suburban house but she owned it,she sold it and bought a bigger property in the same area still paying for it she works full time her husband is home he has health problems, she has volunteers that help and home based foster carers these people do good work.

A lot of these smaller rescues do a lot of good. By keeping the cats in a house setting they are better socialized and suited to living in a home.

Forcing a shelter to close like that is nasty. She has volunteers. Maybe they can do an online fundraiser. A lot of people could send a little money and maybe they can find a place they can keep the shelter going. Toronto needs more places like this. we have a bad stray cat problem.

Time is running out and the shelter is desperate.  I hope someone is able to help. Clearly their local government is of no help.
They need someone with property to let them use the space for now until they can find a permanent location.

Our feral cat problem is horrible and North Toronto Cat Rescue is doing something to help. The city council and local Animal Services should be giving them an award and thanking them. Instead they are sabotaging their work. I don't think much of the Vaughan city council or Animal Services. Maybe they should change their name to Animal Disservices since they are clearly doing animals a disservice.

The battle continues. All the cats are safely looked after. Now the shelter is fighting for its existence.

Good for them. I hope they win. They take in street cats, most of whom have been out there for a while. They are doing the city a service as they help the cats.
The feral cat problem is so bad that anyone who is helping  should be respected for the work they do. Even if they are doing things differently, they are still doing something.

Somehow I think they will find a solution.
