6,000 year old dog burial site found
#1
A 6,000 year old grave was found in Saudi Arabia. It held the remains of a pet dog along with its people. This is the earliest direct evidence of domestication discovered so far. The dog bones showed signs of arthritis so the dog was older at the time of death. That indicates he was a pet, not just an animal used to help hunters. Other evidence of early relationships between humans and dogs comes in the form of cave art.  Other evidence will likely be found as the area is investigated.

There is no doubt that the bond between dogs and humans goes back a long way.  The more they unearth  things about ancient humans, the more they find out about  our link to dogs.  Clearly humans and dogs have been linked for thousands of years. Whether dogs are actually our best friend, might be disputed by some cat people, but it is beginning to look like they are our oldest friend.

I find myself wondering if part of our success as a species comes from having dogs as our friends. Did they help us do more and be more?
They certainly do that now.
It will be interesting to see what else they dig up.
