Wildlife trade flourishing in Mekong area
#1
TRAFFIC has been monitoring illegal wildlife trade and they have found thousands of wildlife parts for sale in South East Asia, in particular, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar. They found close to 78,000 illegal animal parts in shops in 2019 and 2020. Even under pandemic restrictions wildlife products have continued to be available.

It might have been possible for something like a global pandemic to slow down the sale of illegal animal parts. There may even be areas where the trade is reduced. However this big problem is still with us and we are going to need everyone who can do something to keep fighting.  The illegal wildlife trade is cruel and it puts many endangered species at risk. It is fortunate that a group like TRAFFIC is able to keep monitoring the situation. At least we know what is happening.
