Animals could teach us to build better climate adapted buildings
#1
Our buildings are pretty static.  They are insulated and that is it. Animals are more adaptive than that. Some change colour in response to the climate. Some like bearded dragons can thermoregulate by changing colour in response to light.  They turn darker when they need more heat.  Birds fluff their feathers up when they need to keep warm. There must be some way we can build so we can trap heat. There must be some way we can build to reflect excess heat.

I have often thought that roof colours are a mistake. We have black rooftops. In the winter they are covered in snow so they are not collecting heat. In the summer when we want to cool down our black rooftops are still collecting heat. Why can't we have rooftops that reflect the heat. If we would seriously study how animals adapt to temperature changes we might get some good building ideas. Our black roads are pretty hot too.  It bears thinking about.
