A pet tortoise escaped from his back yard enclosure. Maybe he climbed the fence.
He was found half a mile from home, a year later.

It took Maxi the Tortoise a year to travel half a mile from his home. I know tortoises don't move fast, but I rather think Maxi must have been stopping for snacks along the way.
It is incredible that Maxi made it home. So many things could have happened to him. Once he was found, it was very good of the people who found him to make sure he got home safely. I think he needs a better fence now. If he escapes again he might not be so lucky.
