Irish puppy mills and the pandemic
#1
The pandemic has brought about a desire for pets all over the world. People in England want puppies. This has triggered an increase in the efforts of Irish puppy mills. Thousands of puppies are being born in deplorable conditions. They are poorly fed and poorly socialized. They often have Parvo. They are smuggled into England and sold through online sites. People think they are buying healthy pets from local breeders. Many die soon after they are purchased.
The penalties for dog snuggling are minor so there is little risk and a great deal of money to be made.
This is now more lucrative than the drug trade.

Whenever there is a great demand for something there is an opportunity for great abuses. This is especially true with pets.
Puppy mills will force dogs to have as many litters as possible. They will cut corners on care to save money. The condition of the dogs and their safety during transport is disregarded. While there is a rush for pets this abuse of animals will continue.
If the demand for pets stops, the fate of dogs and puppies at the puppy mills will not be good. Many will be dumped or disposed of.  The people who are making money from these unfortunate animals will not care what happens to them. They may even find somewhere worse to sell them. I can think of possibilities.

This will never be stopped until puppy mills are illegal and efforts are made to enforce the law. Until them, thousands of puppies are born into cruel situations, to live miserable, often short lives. Smiley19
