BC dairy farm loses license because of animal abuse
#1
The dairy industry has a lot of problems with the way they treat cows. So, when a camera was installed at a particular dairy, , it is not surprising that it captured images of abuse.
This this time there is a reaction. Their license has been suspended. There could be criminal charges.
The BC SPCA is pressuring for independent oversight of dairy farms.  They want cameras installed in farms and slaughterhouses. That way the actual treatment of cows can be reviewed.

This is not the first time a BC dairy has been caught abusing cows. This has been going on for years. BC dairies are not an exception. This kind of abuse has been observed elsewhere. The whole industry needs to be changed. Cameras would be a good beginning. So much more needs to be done.
Suspending a license is a start. It does send a message to other dairies. There needs to be more inspection and more oversight.
Whenever people have total power over anything, with no supervision, abuses happen. Cows can't speak up for themselves so we need people who can speak up for them.
