BC to ban rodenticides for 18 months
#1
The BC government has decided to ban the use of rodenticides for 18 months to protect wildlife. Too often the poisons end up killing birds that feed on mice and  rats. During the 18 month ban the government will review alternatives to the poisons.
The Rodenticide Free BC campaign is happy about the ban. They feel there are safer more humane ways to deal with pest, ways that don't put wildlife at risk.

This is great news, even if it is just one province in one country and the ban is just for 18 months. A lot can happen in 18 months.
BC could become an example that other governments would follow. If after 18 months of using alternative, safer, more humane methods, the pest situation is under control, then it will be clear that the poisons were not necessary.   Toronto banned the use of weed killing pesticides years ago and we are fine. Our gardens are not overrun with weeds. Clearly the weed killers were not needed. We have many more bees and butterflies and the environment is healthier.
BC could become an environmentally healthier place with out the use of poisons that kill more than the target animals. Let us hope that the 18 months is just the beginning of a much longer ban.

If only they would ban them everywhere the world would be a better less toxic place.
