The last Bile Bear rescued in Vietnam's Son La Province
#1
Bile bears, are bears that are kept in small cages on farms so they can have their bile extracted. The bile is used in traditional medicine.
These bears lead miserable, painful lives. Bile farming is now illegal in Vietnam. However the law allows the farmers to keep the bears as pets.
This has allowed the bile farming to continue.
World Animal Protection has worked for years to put an end to the suffering of these bears.

The last bear on a farm in Son La province, lived with an old farmer.  Tu Do lived confined in a small cage. It took work, but Four Paws convinced the farmer to let Tu Do go to a sanctuary.  She is the 50th bear rescued in the area and the last one for that province.  Now she can learn to live like a bear in the sanctuary with other bears.

Four Paws International runs a sanctuary for these bears where they can live natural, stress free lives.

The video of the bears in the sanctuary is wonderful. We know where these bears have been. It is a joy to see them wandering freely, enjoying life and just being bears. After all her years of pain and deprivation, Tu Do will finally get to join the other bears and lead a happy life.

It is a beautiful thought that maybe someday all the animals we have exploited will live out their lives in happy sanctuaries.
