Woman gives birth in the hospital with a "birth Dog" by her side
#1
A woman who has seizures, has a dog who is trained to detect her seizures. When she was having a baby she wanted her dog with her. It turns out that dogs are allowed to be there for a birth. It hadn't been done, but it could be done. The hospital worked with the woman to prepare the dog for the task. The dog, Flump, spent time in the delivery area getting used to the sights and sounds. When the delivery finally happened Flump was there and all went well. He stayed with mother and baby after the birth bonding with the baby.

It is an unusual idea, but there would be special circumstances where the presence of a dog would help the mother and make the delivery easier.
Just having a furry companion would ease any anxieties. Maybe they could have a team of maternity ward dogs trained to help mothers through childbirth.
I would think if you could snuggle a golden retriever anything would be easier. It might be soothing for the newborn to have a dog present at birth.
I hope this is not the first and last time this happens.
