836 Parakeets dropped off at an animal shelter
#1
The Michigan Animal Shelter is a little bit is shock after  receiving 497 Parakeets on Thursday and another 339 on Sunday, for a total of 836. The son dropped them off for his father who had only planned to breed a few birds and then let it get out of control.

It turned into a case of animal hoarding that was very unhealthy for the birds.

It is a miracle that none of the birds died in transit. They all need a lot of help. The response from all the local rescues is wonderful. Everyone has responded and is trying to help the birds.  Food is being donated and the birds are being cared for. Once they have had  time to recover they will be available for adoption. I hope the local people can find room in their homes for these birds. They need a chance to live happy normal lives with room enough to be comfortable.

Maybe we should all be watching for hoarding situations. It would have been better for all involved if the birds had been removed before there were over 800.
