Demolition site used to train search and rescue dogs
#1
The old stadium at Oregon State University was being demolished. It was actually imploded into a pile of rubble. This presented a rare opportunity for search and rescue teams to actually practice on a collapsed building. Many of the local teams mostly search for people in the woods. They have little experience with buildings.
Volunteers hid in the rubble and the teams searched until they found them.

This was smart thinking. The building was being demolished anyhow. So, it provided a building in ruins for training. Even a training course set up would not be as authentic as a real collapsed building.  It was probably a fun exercise too. They had a real building in ruins and they could take the searches seriously, but the people they were finding were volunteers who were uninjured.  They knew there would be no unhappy endings. I hope they never need the skills they have learned, but it is good that they had the learning opportunity.
