Icefish colony discovered in the Antarctic's Weddell Sea
#1
A research expedition that was focusing on ocean currents in the Antarctic has found a vast icefish colony in the Weddell Sea.  The sea floor is covered with fish nests. They estimated that there could be 60 million nests or more. The area is 240 square kilometers. This a a whole ecosystem that was previously unknown.

Two things, we know a lot less about the oceans than we thought we did and this area must be protected.
It is a very vulnerable ecosystem. We can't afford to have it exploited. As much as I am excited to learn about this I almost wish they had kept it secret.
Now that it is out there, some group or country will want to fish the area to depletion.
