Rare Bonobo born at UK zoo
#1
Bonobos are actually our closest genetic relative. We know so little about them and there are only 10,000 left in the wild. The usual pressures of poaching and habitat loss and reducing their numbers to dangerous levels.  The birth of a Bonobo anywhere is a cause for celebration. Well done Twycross Zoo for their efforts with Bonobos.

The zoo has worked to make the Bonobos happy. They opened a new larger area with 24 outdoor access for both their Bonobo groups.

This is like a birth in the family they are so closely related to us. Hopefully the work of zoos like Twycross will preserve enough of the species and enough genetic diversity that conservation efforts have a chance. We can at least get to know them better. Understanding Bonobos could help our conservation efforts.
