Masai Giraffe born at Toronto Zoo.

The Toronto Zoo just published a birth announcement for their Masai Giraffe. Their female, Mstari gave birth on Feb 24 to a fine baby giraffe. This is her second baby, her first, Amani was born 22 months ago. The video shows the new baby getting up and standing for the first time. Mstari is a great mother. Masai Giraffes are endangered in the wild due to habitat loss and hunting. Their numbers have declined by 50% in the last 30 years.

I did not know Mstari was pregnant. She hid it well.
The birth of healthy giraffes elsewhere is a guarantee of genetic diversity for the species in the future. Mstari and her mate Kiko are definitely doing their part for their species.
