Pet food found to contain endangered shark meat
#1
A DNA study of a number of brands of dog and cat food turned up the presence of shark meat. The products were labeled as containing ocean fish. It is vague enough that pet owners would not think of sharks as part of their pet's food.

It isn't clear if the sharks were fished deliberately for pet food or if they are part of the shark finning industry. Either way, these are endangered sharks and they should not be fished at all. They certainly should not end up in pet food without a proper label. The decision to feed sharks to our pets should lie with the pet's owner. Many people would not want to do this. The fact that they are hiding the presence of shark meat is an indication that they know people would not be happy about its presence.  The laws about pet food are not good enough. The pet food industry is too unsupervised. They tend to do what they want and that is not good.
