Mongolian Voles cut tall grass as protection from predators

The Mongolian rodent, the Brandts Vole manages its environment by cutting tall grasses to protect from the shrikes that would eat them. They don't eat the grass, they cut it to hide their tunnels and to give themselves a clear view of the skies.

It is interesting to hear about how animals have adapted their environments for their own benefit.  They must have learned over many generations what to do to make things safer. 

The difference between them and us? We would have clear cut the whole area, creating an ecological disaster and probably destroying our own food sources.
We could learn from the voles. They only do what is needed.
