Ants being trained to detect cancer

Yes, you did read that right. They are working to train ants to detect some forms of cancer. Ants are able to detect cancer by scent the same way dogs do.
It may take some planning to use this skill in the real world, but the ants can do it.

I could see how this would work. It would be a non harmful, non invasive way to spot a tumor. They may be able to find a way to make this work. Early detection of cancer is essential to survival so ants really could help.

I think most people would prefer a dog to an ant. A lot of people are going to find it hard to trust the judgement of an insect. That will be the hardest barrier to be overcome.
