Construction begins on the world's largest wildlife crossing bridge
#1
California has just started construction on what will be the world's largest wildlife crossing. It will allow animals to safely cross the 10 lanes of the LA Freeway.
Many animals will benefit, but in particular the Mountain Lions will do better because of this bridge. They need a large territory and they need to move away from their mother's area. A young male mountain lion was killed on the highway when he tried to move on to new territory. The bridge would have benefitted him.

The bridge is a brilliant idea. It will link islands of wildlife so they can genetically diversify.  Wildlife that gets trapped because of human construction, like highways, quickly become inbred and less genetically healthy. Some species just need to wander more than others. This will let them safely do so.  It will take a few years to finish the project and then life will open up for animals separated by the LA Highway.

We need many more of these bridges. Wildlife everywhere would benefit.
