Calgary's official bird: The Black Capped Chickadee
#1
The city of Calgary has been in the process of voting for an official city bird. There were five contenders: the Black Capped chickadee, the Black billed Magpie, the Blue Jay, the Northern Flicker and the Red Breasted Nuthatch.  It is great the the Chickadee won, but it is more important that people actually thought about the birds in their city. In 2021 Nature Canada certified Calgary as a bird friendly city. Now they have proved they deserve the designation.

I was team Magpie all the way, but the Chickadees are cute.
Now let's hope that other cities take the time to choose a bird to represent them.
Sadly Toronto should probably choose the pigeon. They are everywhere and the city wouldn't be the same without them.
