Giant stingray rescued in the Mekong River
#1
A giant stingray was accidentally hooked in the Mekong River. It weighed 180 kilos and spanned 4 meters. Finding it and rescuing it is very important. This proves that the stingrays live in this part of the river. The whole river is important for the biodiversity of the region. Possible hydroelectric dams threaten that biodiversity.
Illegal fishing and plastic waste also threaten the river.

I hope the presence of this giant stingray will cause people to take notice and work to save the river. Damage to the river would have severe ecological consequences for the whole area. Many fish are born in that stretch of the river and disperse to other areas. The ecology of the other areas would be impacted by any damage to this part of the river. Life is all interconnected and if we mess up in one area, we mess up in other areas.
