Conservationist teaches geese safe migration routes
#1
Christian Moullec has been working with the geese since 1995, He uses and ultralight plane and flies with the geese.
He has been raising white fronted geese which he has introduced to Sweden. He uses his plane to teach them to migrate in the fall.
He has taught them to go to a safe location in Germany for the winter. They then return to Sweden in the spring.

This is a remarkable idea. Geese or any other birds that are raised do not know how to migrate. Teaching them migration routes lets then establish natural patterns.
They need to migrate to warmer areas that have food available. Showing them where to go is very important.

Maybe this can be done with other birds that are being introduced in an area. The Trumpeter Swans became extinct in Ontario a long time ago.
Birds were introduced from flocks in Alaska. The swans are doing very well and their numbers have increased. They don't know how or where to migrate.
The best they have done is fly to lake Ontario for the winter. They should go a lot further south than that.
Maybe some day someone can teach some of the birds to fly south. The flock could learn from them. It's a thought.
