West coast BC Orcas going hungry
#1
The salmon stocks along the west coast of Canada are quite depleted. Sadly those salmon are what the Orcas eat. Every day the pod feeds, but doesn't get enough.
There are not enough salmon left. This is gradually weakening the Orcas. It can have permanent effects on young ones growing up without enough food.

Efforts must be made to protect the salmon. It is not just over fishing. Logging and other human activities have reduced the ability of the fish to spawn.
If they can't make it up the river to spawn, then no baby salmon will be coming down the river to enter the ocean. Four years from now those salmon that don't come down the river, will not be going back up the river to spawn. We have messed the salmon cycle up in so many ways. We know the impact it is having on the Orcas. Who knows what other parts of the ecosystem are suffering. This is an area where we need to apply our very best conservation efforts and we need to do it now. The Orcas need help now.
