Girl, 8, spends 200 pounds to rescue goldfish from a fairground
#1
Cherry was very upset when she saw goldfish in tiny bags to be used as prizes at the Hayfield May Queen Fair.
She felt it was wrong to treat goldfish this way. So she bought them all and brought then home. From there she can find homes and give the fish a chance.
She has even set up a petition to ban the use of live goldfish as prizes.

Cherry is amazing. She is right, it is not fair to treat goldfish this way. Most of the goldfish kept in little bags like that will not survive. By the time they are given out they are already dying. She saved those fishes lives. If she has success with her petition, she will save many more  fish lives.
Pretty incredible for an 8 year old.

The girl certainly is to be admired for her strong desire to save the goldfish from uncertain fates. It is vital, however, that the use of goldfish in tiny plastic bags is banned - and quickly. Otherwise, traders will continue to do this and to profit from it.

I am very unhappy that the stall holder demanded such a large amount of money. He will be walking away smiling, from a massive profit. The girl has a good heart and did well. But the trade in goldfish in plastic bags must be stopped to prevent such things happening again and again.

She did pay quite a bit of money. The stall holder will want to bring in even more goldfish. The petition to change the laws needs to succeed. That is the only way to stop this. It should be illegal everywhere to use any live animal as a prize. They should target the person who supplies the goldfish to the fair.  That is where this all begins. The supplier knows what is going to happen to the fish and yet he still sells them.
