Baby Woolly Mammoth found in the permafrost.
#1
The Woolly Mammoths have only been gone 10,000 years. In the span of life on earth this is nothing. They existed within human memory.
Up North in the Yukon, in the permafrost, a baby woolly mammoth was found recently. The baby was between 30 and 35 days old and is a girl.
She has been given the name Nun Cho Ga, which means big baby animal in the local Han language. She has been frozen for about 30,000 years.
She is being kept frozen for now, until it is determined what should be done with her.

It is an amazing find, but how sad that she died as a baby. He mother must have been very sad to lose her.
She is a voice from the past who can tell us about an amazing animal that went extinct 10,000 years ago. Climate change was a factor in their loss, but so was hunting. Does that sound a little like what is going on right now. Species are at risk because of climate change and human activity. Maybe Nun Cho Ga can speak to us about what we stand to lose if we do not act on climate change. We need to stop destroying species and work at saving them. Our human activities towards animals need to be conservation efforts. We need to preserve and restore habitats. We stand to lose so much if we don't act in the right way. A little baby who died 30,000 years ago is here to remind us of that.
