Yearling Right Whale entangled in fishing gear
#1
A one year old Right Whale calf has been spotted in the Gulf of St Lawrence, tangled in fishing gear. He is the fourth entangled  whale to be spotted this year.
Snow Cone who was spotted in July is still entangled an the the fishing lines are embedded in her body.

Efforts are underway to free the yearling. He is further offshore so he will be hard to reach when they find him.
They do however have teams trained to do the job.

Let's hope they can get to him quickly. With so much line and buoys wrapped around him he will tire.
The whales have a hard enough time surviving  with out all the problems we cause them. We deplete their food supplies, we hit them with our ships going through their waters and we have filled the oceans with masses of old fishing gear, just right for tangling whales. If they survive it will be in spite of us.
It is the least we can do, when we send a team to free a whale from our garbage.
