Pawrental leave
#1
A Canadian company is giving its workers time off when they get a new pet so they can have time to bond. They prefer 2 months notice or at least 4 weeks. That is reasonable since people often plan the addition of a pet. They get three days paid leave and can ask for two more unpaid days.
The employee has to put the request in writing and provide some details. Vacation time can be used to extend the leave a bit longer.

This is a very pet friendly policy. It is also smart. People will be getting pets. Someone with a new pet at home is not going to be focused on work. They are going to be stressed worrying about how the pet is doing. It is better to let them have some days to settle the new pet in and then they can come back with cool pictures all ready to share with their coworkers.

I actually know a place that let their receptionist take pawternity leave. We all managed without her and we were all excited to see puppy pictures when she came back. Everyone was happy about it. The small amount of inconvenience for the rest of us was totally worth it. I have since met the puppy and he is beautiful. Having someone home with him for his first days really did make a difference.
