Times when people thought you were talking to them, but you were talking to a pet

It seems it happens fairly often. People will be saying something to their pet and a human nearby thinks you are talking to them.  It could be funny, but it also could be awkward.

I have had it happen when I was talking to an Iguana, someone answered me. I was facing the Iguana and giving her a hug and rubbing her back. I said something about how are you and a random person behind me answered. I didn't even know they were there. I can see sometimes people making a mistake, but I was facing the Iguana and touching her. Maybe it was someone who doesn't talk to animals.

What to do if you accidentally invite someone over for dinner? That could be difficult. No idea.
