Snow Cone, the Right Whale dying of entanglement
#1
Snow Cone is one of 100 breeding age female Right Whales. Even though she was entangled in fishing gear she did manage to give birth to a calf. Sadly, the calf seems to have died. It has not been seen in months. Snow Cone has been entangled for some time but has been picking up more and more fishing gear.
Rescue teams are trying to reach her to remove the ropes, but her health is declining, and she is not expected to survive. The best they can do is make her more comfortable.

In 2015 there were over 500 Right Whales. Now there are just over 300 whales left.
Whales are dying because of boat strikes and fishing gear entanglements. It is all our fault.
Reducing speeds in shipping lanes has helped. The fishing gear is another issue.
Eighty-six percent of the whales have been entangled at least once. Some have been entangled as many as 8 times.
Sometimes they can be rescued, but is Snow Cones case, things are not going well.
The next time we hear about her, it will be a confirmation of her death. Smiley19

Snow Cone has not been seen again and it is thought that she will not be seen again.

We have filled the ocean with so much junk that a beautiful creature like Snow Cone is not able to survive.
It is our fault, and we should be ashamed. Smiley19
We also should be doing something to fix this mess before more whales die.
