The last Afghan rescue dog in Canada
#1
The story of the rescue is complicated so I will let you read it for yourself. The other last rescue dog is also a complex story.
In both cases the dogs will be reunited with their people. In one case the dog got out first and in the other, the people got out first.
What matters is the many people who helped with the rescue and the caring people from Afghanistan who did not want to be separated from their pets.

It is a beautiful rescue story, but sadly one that cannot be repeated at this time. Canada has banned the importing of dogs from a number of countries out of fear of canine rabies. Rabies is serious and precautions are needed. A total ban however is not necessary. Mandatory vaccinations and quarantines would be sufficient protection. Also, we are not an island. There is nothing to stop animals crossing the border on their own.
The rabies ban is like the pit bull ban. It gives the illusion that we have things under control, but we really don't. Banning pit bulls made people careless about other breeds and people got hurt. We would be better to have some rules about rabies that apply to all animals coming into the country. Rabies is a global threat so it could come from anywhere. Sadly, this will hurt dogs who desperately need rescuing.
