Pet Emus guard the farm and eat insects
#1
A raspberry farmer in Australia is taking a different approach to things. He uses solar power, tank water and he grows his own vegetables. He fertilizes his plants with manure from his pig and chickens. He also brought home a number of Emu chicks and raised them. Since they are hand raised, they are like cuddly pets.
They feel protective of the farm and its animals, and they eat the crop destroying locusts.
The farm even uses guinea pigs to mow the grass in some spots.
The farm is biodiverse and sustainable.

This is how farming should work. Nothing is being exploited and everything is in balance.
The Emus are pets, but they are also part of the working ecosystem. Everything on this farm has a place in the system.
Instead of pesticides, he has Emus. The Emus give him cuddles. Pesticides not so much.

If more farmers would approach farming like this, the planet would be a lot healthier.
