Habitat restoration brings back endangered species
#1
Efforts have been made to restore lost habitats on land and sea. These critical ecosystems are home to endangered species whose numbers had declined dangerously. Now that their habitats have experienced some level of restoration, the species themselves have increased in numbers.

This is the answer to preventing the extinction of many endangered species. If we restore where they live, they will live.
If we give endangered species a chance, they are able to make a comeback. The mountain gorillas had dangerously low numbers in the 1980s.
Now there are over 1000. They are confined to two forest areas at this time. The gorillas themselves are being watched over and protected.
Their forests are being restored. Non native species are being removed so that the natural forest can return. There are plans to restore more forest which will give the gorillas room to expand. This should bring an increase in their numbers.

The gorillas are just one of many species that has benefited from habitat restoration. If we move forward with restoration and rewilding projects, we can hope to see other species benefit. The whole planet is in a climate change crisis and restoring natural habitats will help us combat it. It is not the only thing we need to do, but it is a very step we can take all around the planet. Many endangered species will benefit from this.
