Bison reintroduced to Banff National Park are thriving
#1
A small herd of bison were introduced to Banff National Park five years ago. There were 16 animals at the time of the reintroduction, now there are eighty.
Bison have increased the biodiversity of the grassland in the area. As they eat, they disperse seeds. In particular, there has been an increase in native plants.
Bison keep the soil healthy. Overall, this has been a tremendous success.

There were bison in the area until the 1950s. Bringing them back will help restore the vegetation and stabilize the ecosystem.
The buffalo were there before and bringing them back will help bring the park back to health.
When it comes to habitat restoration Bison are very effective. This is the key to biodiversity and restoration. Putting the key species back is the solution.
