Toronto Humane Society rescue van stolen and recovered!
#1
Thieves broke into the back entrance of the Toronto Humane Society. They loaded some important tools into the rescue van and drove away with it.
This is the special van that has saved so many lives. It has transported our furry friends to safety and to new homes. It carries animals to vet visits.
It is hard to do the lifesaving work of the shelter without the van.

They got video images of the crooks. If you think you know them, you know what to do.

Staff and volunteers are understandably heart broken. I hope the public's response is so strong that the shelter feels the love and concern of the community around us. I am too shocked to take this in. What kind of lowlife steals from an animal shelter.
If nothing else, we need to replace the van.

Anyone out there have a van they want to donate?

There is good news and bad news. Nothing has been recovered yet. The losses are around $100,000. The good news is that the emergency fund raising appeal has brought in $100,000. People were very quick to respond to the appeal.

Hertz, a rental company is going to provide a van for free, for the next two months.
That gives us time to replace the missing van and do any extra security measures needed.
The loss is still shocking, but the outpouring of support is amazing.

Good News!
The rescue van was found abandoned. They haven't caught the guys who did it and they haven't recovered the other stolen items, but the van is back.
It still needs to be checked out, but it's back.
The donations keep coming in.
So, this has all worked out very well.

Those of us who are involved with the Toronto Humane Society want them to know that we are behind them 100%.
It looked like a disaster and the staff must have been so upset. Now the van is back, and the donated money will cover a lot of expenses.
When a shelter does as much good work as the THS does, good things will come to them.
