Gentle Barn plans to build sanctuary for NYC carriage horses
#1
The Gentle Barn has a number of animal sanctuaries for various farm animals. Now they are building a sanctuary for New York City carriage horses.
The horse work in terrible conditions. They are required to pull heavy loads in and weather. They are worked until they are quite old.

Last summer a horse named Ryder collapsed on the street. He was unable to rise and was eventually euthanized.

Ryder was 26 and was too old and tired to keep pulling carriages. In the end he just couldn't do it anymore, so he died on the streets when he had toiled for years.
He never had a chance to rest and enjoy life. All he knew was hard work.

There is a push to ban carriage horses and replace them with electric vehicles.
When that happens, Gentle Barn will be ready with a special place for the horses to live out their remaining years in the peace and comfort they deserve.

I hope this all happens soon. It is not soon enough for Ryder, but it could be soon enough for the other carriage horses.
No more horses should die on the streets of New York because we have worked them to death.

If you do visit New York do not ride with the carriage horses. If we refused to ride in the horse drawn carriages it would be easier to shut the industry down.
