Orphaned elephants rescued in Kenya
#1
The droughts in Africa are creating a desperate situation for wildlife. Elephants are the most vulnerable. The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust takes in orphaned baby elephants and raises them. Some are very close to death and yet somehow they survive. Many have grown up over the years and now have their own babies.
This year because of the lack of rain there are many more orphans than usual.

The video of the reporter is funny. Baby elephants are playful. It is beautiful to see them feeling good enough to be playful.
Many elephants are not so lucky. How long will this drought last. How bad will it get. We don't know. Has human activity been part of the cause of this drought.
Probably. We destabilize ecosystems and then we can't fix them. We just have to hope the rains come back. Until then the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust will look after orphaned baby elephants and give them a future.

It's so sad they lost their mothers but I'm glad they're getting cared for.

Some of the orphans have even grown up and had their own babies. I think they have a herd of elephants that were all orphans.
