Increase in pets being abandoned in Rouge National Park
#1
Rouge National Urban Park is a large conservation area on the east side of Toronto.

If you look at the map you will see that the Toronto Zoo is in the park boundaries. It is a beautiful wild area.
They used to find one or two pets in the park per year. In 2021 they found nine pets and in 2022 they found 18. Sadly many are not found.
This past November a dog was found dead with his personal effects. He never stood a chance.
It is not just the fate of the pets that is a problem. The pets can endanger the wildlife in the park.

To abandon a pet in Rouge Park they have to make a special trip to the edge of the city. The Humane Society and Animal Services are much closer.
People are going to a lot of trouble to abandon there pets in a place where they can't survive. I can't understand a person who would act that way.
They don't care about their pet or the wildlife in the park.
