8 Right Whale calves spotted this season
#1
So far this breeding season, 8 North Atlantic Right Whale calves have been spotted. That is a good sign. There are only about 340 Right Whales and only 100 of them are potential mothers. Some of those mothers are older. In fact some of this years mothers are over 30. They only give birth every 3 years or more so it is important that the older mothers are still giving birth.

Hopefully this is a continued sign of population growth. The Right Whales are very vulnerable. Too many things humans do have endangered them.
Boat strikes and entanglements are the worst. Anything we can do to reduce these dangers is important to the Right Whales and other whale species.
We just have to hope that we are doing enough to help the right whales to survive.
Eight calves is a hopeful sign.
