Swedish wolf cull begins
#1
Sweden has decided to cut its wolf population almost in half. There are only 460 wolves. Now they want to bring the numbers down by 75. They even hope to bring the over all population to less than 200.
The first day of the hunt they didn't kill any wolves, but they used dogs to find wolf dens so in the days to follow there will be a slaughter.

This is a cruel and senseless action. It is also very unwise. Low numbers will put the whole wolf population at risk. It could leave them genetically weak.
Also, it has been shown that apex predators stabilize ecosystems.
The wolf population is shared with Norway along their common border. Norway also drastically culls its wolves.
The situation is very vulnerable for the wolves. It could be even more vulnerable for the other species impacted by the wolves. If the wolves are reduced too drastically in their natural habitat, who knows what the results would be.

We know the story of the wolves in Yellowstone Park in the USA. Most of us have seen the video. The wolves controlled the other animal populations, which restored the healthy vegetation in the park. Even the river stabilized. Picture watching the video in reverse.
