Elderly couple may be forced to euthanize elderly pig
#1
A couple in their 80s has one last pig left from their more active farming days. She is 18 years old and lives out her days quietly in an area next to a popular trail. People love seeing her. They even get produce dropped off for her.
They also got a complaint about her. The pig is old. She is healthy, but she has a skin condition that gets treated.
Someone complained to the SPCA. They have to check out all complaints and each time the couple has to have a vet check the pig.
The pig is fine. The vet wrote a letter confirming that the pig is fine. Every time there is a complaint they need to pay for another vet check.
They can't afford this. They wanted the pig to live out her life in peace, but it may not be possible.

Part of the problem is that most people have never seen a pig that old. Pigs are not usually allowed to live out their full lifespan.
Old animals can look a bit rough and still be fine. We really have lost touch with the natural process of living and dying.
I hope the community can rally and save the pig. She deserves her last years of life is peace in the home she has always known

Sadly the pig has been euthanized.

I know the pig was older and didn't have much time left, but she was happy and her people were happy.
They should have been able to enjoy her last days. She was in the home she loved with the people she loved.
Now it is over and she is gone.

This is what happens when people think they are doing the right thing even though they do not know anything about pigs.
It would have ended better if the had spoken to the old couple and found out what was going on.
