Year of the rabbit, please don't get a rabbit
#1
Animal shelters all over are willing to wish you happy year of the rabbit, but they are also begging you not to get a rabbit. Unless you really understand how much work a rabbit is, it will end badly. Rabbits are so cute, especially little tiny rabbits. However they quickly grow up to be big needy rabbits. They need space and room to run around. They need careful feeding. They must be neutered if they are going to be kept as a pet. One rabbit is a lot of work, can you imagine careing for a whole litter, who can grow up quickly and have litters of their own.

Shelters are already over-run with rabbits. Rabbits are being dumped in parks where they can't survive. There is already an over supply of rabbits wanting forever homes. If everyone acts on a whim because it is year of the rabbit, shelters don't know what they are going to do.

If you really want the rabbit experience and just absolutely need to snuggle a bunny, volunteer at a shelter and help care for all the abandoned rabbits.
Foster a rabbit if you want one at home for a while. If you pass the test and still want a rabbit, the shelters have lots of rabbits just waiting for homes.
Don't get a rabbit, get a rescue rabbit.
